Velocity have won the 2019/20 Northern Premier League T20 crown after securing a 15-run victory over Power in the final at Jansen Park in Hamilton.

Alisha Rout won the toss for Velocity and chose to bat first, with Yas Karim and Olivia Lobb getting the side off to a great start.

The pair had added 75 for the first wicket before Karim fell on the stroke of the 11th over for 38; the top-score of the innings.

When Karim's opening partner Lobb (33) fell 10 balls later with the score at 84 (Ruby Makeham bowling both openers), the Velocity innings lost some momentum as they struggled to score the fast runs usually required in a T20 match, however Sarah Jane Stone played a good hand at number three with 22 from 23 balls.

Two wickets in two balls from Kari Carswell ensured a superb final over only conceded two runs as Power restricted Velocity to 126/5 from their 20.

The Power chase got off to a less than ideal start as Shriya Naidu and Rout claimed early wickets to leave Power 18/2 after four overs, but a Power fightback threatened to take the game away from Velocity.

Power skipper, Lily Mulivai, and Georgina Harris, combined for a 71-run partnership to take the score to 89/2 before the Karim/Lobb combination succeeded again, removing Harris for 22 - with only three wickets down, the equation stood at 38 runs required from 30 balls.

Olivia McDonald then came to the bowling crease for her first over, which would turn the game in Velocity's favour.

Two wickets, along with the retirement of Mulivai, who had made a classy 64 from 50 balls, left the equation at 27 required off 18 balls. Crucially, Power were now also six down, with two fresh batters at the crease.

Velocity would wrap the match up reasonably comfortably in the end, Rout taking one more wicket to finish with 2-26 and, McDonald finishing with a sensational 3-5 as they secured a 15-run victory.

In the third/fourth play-off, it took a final over run-chase for Galaxy to overhaul Sonic's 116/6; Brooke Halliday scoring half of Sonic's runs with 58 off 40 balls.

While the chase went to the final over, with the help of a tidy 2-17 for Charlotte Sarsfield, the Galaxy got there with a couple of balls to spare and four wickets in reserve.
