Northland vs Bay of Plenty

A good batting track up in Whangarei ensured plenty of runs and lots of toil for both bowling attacks.

Northland won the toss and opted to bat. Significant contributions from Brad Kneebone (61), Ben Hyde (71), Neal Parlane (59) and Matt Taylor (58) took them to an imposing total of 336.

The Bay lost wickets early and at 125/5, 336 looked a long way away, but opener Tom MacRury's 60, was then complemented through the experienced middle order duo of Jono Boult (81) and Tim Clarke (67) and kept the Bay in the game. In the end though the chase proved too much with Northland winning on first innings by 19 runs. ND contracted player Henry Cooper got through 30 overs of spin and claimed 4/71 for Northland.

Counties Manukau vs Hamilton

Runs were plentiful on Day 1 of this fixture with Counties amassing 446/7 in their turn at bat - a record score for the association.

Tristan Payle continued his recent good form with a fine 134, with Nick Kelly also reaching three figures (106). They were supported by Katene Clarke (48) and Barry Rhodes (68).

In reply Hamilton never really got going. A mix of loose shots and accurate seam bowling from Michael Schofield (5/14) and Reid Somani (2/25) meant a resounding victory for Counties Manukau by 330 runs.

Poverty Bay vs Waikato Valley

Waikato Valley continued their emrgence as one of the most promising teams in the competition with a comfortable 1st innings win at Harry Barker reserve in Gisborne.

After rain washed out the first morning, when play got underway Poverty Bay were quickly bundled out for only 92. Chief destroyers were promising teenage paceman Matthew Fisher (3/25), and all-rounder Jake Gibson (4/15).

Rising talent Dillon Kelliher scored his 3rd century in the last three weeks with a dominant 134 off just 121 balls. This and other contributions took the Valley through 300/9 declared.

Poverty Bay went back into bat, with the game finishing at 63/4 in their 2nd innings.
