Northern Districts to donate Super Smash gate proceeds to bushfire relief
Published on 08 Jan 2020
Northern Districts Cricket Association will donate the gate proceeds from Sunday's Dream11 Super Smash double-header at Bay Oval to the Australian bushfire relief efforts.
Northern Districts chief executive Ben MacCormack said that, like everyone, Northern Districts had been deeply impacted by the coverage of the bushfires and, with several Australian employees, had a direct connection to the disaster.
He said Sunday would provide the appropriate platform for the Association to make a contribution.
"Given I was raised in, and worked across, a lot of these regions, I have been greatly distressed by what I have seen in Australia," said Mr MacCormack.
"Sunday presents a good opportunity for us to do our part in helping with the relief efforts.
"We know the locals love their cricket, so hopefully we'll see plenty of them at Bay Oval, helping towards a greater contribution to our neighbours."
The proceeds from the day will be going towards the World Wildlife Fund's 'Help Save Koalas' initiative, with the bushfires having devasting consequences for Australia's wildlife population.
Northern Districts will be seeking further means of helping the relief efforts during the double-header at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Sunday, January 12.
The Dream11 Super Smash double-header will take place at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Sunday, January 12 from 12.40pm.
