Northern Districts Switch Focus to Ford Trophy
Published on 25 Jan 2018
Following on from their Grand Final win of the Burger King Super Smash last Saturday, the Northern Districts Senior Men now switch their focus to the Ford Trophy One Day Competition. ND head to the Basin Reserve to face Wellington in Round 4 of the 50 over competition where they currently sit 4th on an intriguing points table. The top 4 on the leader board all have won 2 of their first 3 matches and are separated only by run rate and a bonus point.
There are a few changes to the team as they switch from the Knights to Northern Districts, the bowling line up will see the return of Zak Gibson from a side strain injury and spinner Joe Walker comes in for Ish Sodhi who has joined the BLACKCAPS for the T20 campaign against Pakistan. Daniel Flynn will be rested for this match due to the management of a hip complaint. Knights coach Gareth Hopkins will stay with the side as Head Coach for the next 3 Ford Trophy fixtures while Graeme Aldridge completes his coaching role with the New Zealand Under 19's in the World Cup.
Captain Dean Brownlie is looking forward to continuing their winning form into the Ford Trophy "The T20 win was such a great achievement for us and the key now is to continue that momentum into the 50 over game."
Northern Districts last won the Ford Trophy in the 2009/10 season.
