Published on 22 Jun 2017
Northern Districts Cricket have confirmed the appointment of Garry Wood as the coach of their women's cricket team, the SKYCITY Hamilton Northern Spirit.
Wood comes with a vast experience of coaching, having coached the Counties Manukau Senior Men's team, the Northern Districts A side and numerous Auckland age group teams (male and female) over the last 15 years. He is currently the Papatoetoe Cricket Club Director, a role in which he has received numerous awards for the community cricket work that has been undertaken, and coach of the Samoan Women's national team.
Peter Zanzottera, Director of High Performance at Northern Districts Cricket is looking forward to Wood joining the coaching team at the association, saying "We had a number of strong contenders for the role, but ultimately Garry's enthusiasm, organisational skills and tactical knowledge meant he stood out among the contenders. We are delighted to have secured someone of this quality for the Spirit team."
The Northern Spirit players will have their first training session with Wood when they come together for a winter training session in early July. The schedule for the team is yet to be announced for the upcoming season.
The list of contracted SKYCITY Hamilton Northern Spirit players will be released in the coming 2 months.
