Neil Wagner To Transfer to Northern Districts Cricket

Published on 18 May 2018

Northern Districts Cricket will have the services of BLACKCAPS pace bowler Neil Wagner for the 2018/19 season. Wagner and his wife recently relocated from Mosgiel to Tauranga so logistically it was difficult for him to continue to play for Otago Cricket, whom he has represented since 2008.

Northern Districts CEO Ben MacCormack was aware of Wagner's move to Tauranga.  "We of course were very pleased to get a phone call from Neil, he is a world class player and he will add an extra element to our current pool of pace bowlers. We think he will be a great addition to our squad and we welcome him to the ND family."

South African born Wagner is a regular feature in the BLACKCAPS Test bowling line up and showed his class in December last year, taking best ever figures of 7/39 in the first Test against the West Indies at the Basin Reserve. For the Otago Volts, Wagner played 190 matches, taking 579 wickets.

Wagner is currently in Essex playing county cricket, and will join his new team mates for Spring training.  ND will announce their full list of contracted players in July.
