High-flying Wellington sides to provide stern test in Bay Oval opener
Published on 31 Dec 2019
Fans should be treated to some high-quality cricket to open the year 2020 at Bay Oval tomorrow.
The sides from Wellington are making the trip to Tauranga and, with one loss between the two teams from 11 matches, should provide a challenge for the SkyCity Hamilton Northern Spirit and Knights.
The Northern Districts' sides will be looking to return to winning ways after both suffered tight defeats in the last round against Otago.
Victories against the Blaze and Firebirds would propel both teams up the table and be a serious statement as the Dream11 Super Smash starts to near the business end.
Despite the competition reaching its halfway mark in the last round, this will be the first meeting between the Northern Districts' and Wellington sides.
The solitary change to the squads for the New Year's Day fixtures, which are the first Super Smash matches at Bay Oval this summer, is the addition of Emma Baker to the Spirit side.
SkyCity Hamilton Northern Spirit vs Wellington Blaze - Wednesday, January 1, 3.30pm at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.
Knights vs Wellington Firebirds - Wednesday, January 1, 7.00pm at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.
