Hagley Oval clashes crucial for Spirit and Knights Super Smash aspirations

Published on 04 Jan 2020

Tomorrow's Dream11 Super Smash matches against the sides from Canterbury are shaping as pivotal games for all sides concerned.

The SkyCity Hamilton Northern Spirit will need to win at least two of their remaining three matches to put themselves in finals contention, while the Magicians will need to win all of their remaining four matches to earn an elimination final spot.

The situation in the men's competition is less clear, with every side still within touching distance of a finals spot, but losses in the later stages of the competition put teams at risk of being cut adrift.

The Knights currently sit in fifth, one win off the third-placed Central Stags.

With the Spirit and Knights due to play Canterbury again in the last round-robin fixtures, a win against the southerners tomorrow would provide a confidence boost ahead of the potentially competition-defining final round of fixtures.

The Spirit will be boosted by the return of Brooke Halliday to the squad, who missed the last two games through injury, while the Knights name an unchanged side for the match against the Kings.
