Double-headers return for Seddon Super Smash swansong
Published on 21 Dec 2019
Fans will be treated to back-to-back games at Seddon Park tomorrow as the SkyCity Hamilton Northern Spirit and Knights play their first double-header of the season.
It will also be the Spirit's first Dream11 Super Smash home game of the season after they made a good start to their campaign in the centralised round in Lincoln.
The Spirit sit just behind tomorrow's opponents, the Auckland Hearts, in third-place after two wins from three games in Lincoln, including a fantastic 10-wicket victory against the Central Hinds where the Spirit chased down 172.
While the Spirit will be buoyed be performances from the entire squad, opening batter Katie Gurrey is one particular player in a scarcely believable vein of form.
Gurrey scored the Spirit's first-ever T20 century in the 10-wicket win, as she posted 106 not out to go alongside earlier scores of 90 not out and 71; leaving Gurrey with an average of 267 at a strike-rate of 173.
Tomorrow's second match is shaping as a crucial one for both sides, with the Knights and Auckland Aces yet to get off the mark after three matches apiece.
Rain has played a significant factor in both sides fixtures, with the Knights bowling well against the Central Stags last night to restrict them to 149, before rain forced an abandonment without a ball being bowled in the second innings.
The Knights have improved in every fixture this season, and the performance and energy on display in the field last night at Seddon Park suggests they are nearing their best.
